DUBAI – In one of the biggest upsets in the Capital Kerala Premier League, Trotters Wayanad Highlanders stormed into the final, beating favourites CSS Alleppey Ripples in the semi-final at the ICC Global Cricket Academy ground on Tuesday night.

In the final on Friday, Wayanad will meet the winners of the second semi-final between Yogi Group Trissur Dynamites VS Dunes Kannur Veerans.

Alleppey had an unbeaten record in the KPL and they had entered the semi-final, topping the eight-team table.

KPL, which offers the biggest prize money in domestic league cricket, is set to start the tournament at the ICC Global Cricket Academy grounds from January 20 to February 24.

“The investment in the team shows our continuous support towards the sporting fraternity of the UAE,” TS Kaladharan, owner of CSS, said at a Press conference at the Pathumuri Restaurant at the Ramada Continental Hotel here on Sunday night.

CSS is one of the leading integrated freight forwarding and logistics solution companies in the region.

A total of eight teams will participate in the month-long KPL to be held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council.

The winner of the title will bag a cash prize of Dh60,000, with the total prize money set at Dh155,000.

The official launch of the tournament, which has south Indian actors Suresh Gopi and Bhamaa as brand ambassadors, will be held at the Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa on Wednesday.

Indian cricket player S Sreesanth will also attend the function, KPL organisers told Khaleej Times.

Alleppey Ripples also named Hareesh as their captain and Fida Asghar as coach.

Radhakrishnan Machingal will be the team manager.

DCC secretary Mohammed Lokhandwala, KPL directors Nasir CTK, Paul T Joseph, Roy George, Jathinder Menon and Thomas Philip were also present during the function.
