CSS Aleppey Ripples cruised to an easy win

Match winning knocks from Faizan Asif of Global Distribution Malappuram Knights who slammed ten sixes and Abdul Shakoor of CSS Aleppey Ripples lit up the matches played on Saturday as both teams notched up important wins against Trotters Waynad Highlanders and Thumbay Kasargod Leopards in the KPL Dubai 2012 tournament.

Malappuram lost two early wickets as Kasim Butt 8, and Andrei 1, were picked up by Raziq Khan and Nasir Ahmed to leave Malappuram at 26 runs for two wickets in 5 overs. Asif Iqbal and Faizan Asif then mixed caution with aggression to slam a 77 runs partnership in quick time. Asif made 41 runs in 36 balls with two sixes and four boundaries while Faizan was happy smashing the ball out of the park as he slammed ten massive sixes and three fours to make a rapid fire 84 runs in 33 balls. Shibith then made a brisk 25 runs to ensure Malappuram Knights reached a formidable score of 185.

Faced with a big total Waynad lost Mohammad Azam 11. Mohammad Shahzad and Rizwan Amanat 23, then put on 39 runs at which stage Rizwan was picked up by Shehzad. Shafaqat bowled a superb spell bagging four wickets for 22 runs while Parvez Ahmed and Shehzad picked up a couple of wickets each to restrict Waynad to 143 runs.

In the second game Thumbay Kasargod Leopards batting first notched up 132 runs mainly due to contributions from Syed Maqsood, Asim Ijaz and Shivank Kumar who made 25 runs. Maqsood who has been Kasargod’s mainstay batted well once again making the top score of 63 runs in 58 balls hitting seven fours. Asim then played a rapid fire unbeaten 32 runs to see them to 132 runs.

Abdul Shakoor led CSS Aleppey Ripples reply slamming 14 boundaries and a six to put them on the path to victory. He top scored with a knock of 82 runs which took him 44 balls and it was his contribution which saw Aleppey race past the target in 16.4 overs .
